Since the release in late 2018 of our original NDEWS report, Methamphetamine: A Regional Drug Crisis, the NDEWS Coordinating Center has continued to monitor indicators of the availability and use of methamphetamine nationwide and in the NDEWS Sentinel Community Sites. The Center for Substance Use, Addiction & Health Research (CESAR) has prepared two reports to conclude our oversight of the first six years of the NDEWS program (2014-2020) at the University of Maryland, College Park.

A combination of public health and law enforcement indicators were used to assess national, regional, and polysubstance trends (August 2020).

Report one: This update focuses on three law enforcement sources: NFLIS-DRUG, the HIDTA program, and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) data:

Report two: This update focuses on national and regional trends in drug poisoning deaths monitored by: the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) National Vital Statistics System (NVSS).
