ARTEMIS: Advancing Addiction Research and Treatment through Engagement with Rural Marylanders Impacted by Polysubstance Use
A growing UMD collaboration led by Dr. Jessica Magidson, Associate Professor and Director of CESAR, and Dr. Sarah Kattakuzhy, Associate Professor at UMB and Associate Director of the Kahlert Institute, and just received an NIH/NIDA grant under a new R24 mechanism to establish Patient Engagement Resource Centers RFA to launch ARTEMIS. Our prior research has shown that clinical research and services must engage individuals who have lived experience with polysubstance drug use and reside in rural communities. ARTEMIS will accomplish this by establishing a sustainable patient engagement resource center to advance patient-centered, integrated care models for polysubstance use in rural areas. The center will include a patient advisory committee (PAC) and consultation model linking people with lived experience and researchers and evaluations of patient experiences and other projects designed in partnership with the PAC. The PAC will serve as a resource to support providers and researchers by helping integrate patient perspectives in the treatment and study of substance use disorders.
